> A to Z of Neighbours: Letter A
The A to Z of Neighbours is intended to act as an encyclopaedia of everything to do with the show. These are the entries beginning with the letter A. If you feel that we're missing anything, please let us know, either by contacting us or in the relevant thread on the Message Board.
Aboriginal: The indigenous people of Australia; only one Neighbours character - Sally Pritchard - has been an Aborigine. Lassiter's hotel is rumoured to have been built on the site of an Aboriginal watering hole.
Adelaide: Hometown of, amongst others, Beverly Marshall, Hilary Robinson, and, as we have since learnt, Des and Jamie Clarke, who moved there when his relationship with Fiona fell apart.
Agony Aunts: Several Neighbours storylines have revolved around characters becoming agony aunts, including Mrs Mangel, Kerry Bishop and Madge Bishop.

Alcoholic: Many Neighbours characters have been alcoholics, beginning in 1985 with Carol Brown, who eventually sought help when her husband took their children and walked out. Both Helen Daniels and Philip Martin struggled to cope with family bereavements and turned to drink, while, most recently, Karl Kennedy has admitted to having a drink problem, something which contributed to the end of his marriage.
Alessi: Italian family whose presence at number 22 Ramsay Street began with twin sisters Caroline and Christina in 1990 and ended with their aunt and uncle, Cathy and Benito in 1993. Cathy and Benito's son, Rick, was the final member of the family to leave the street, having lived at both number 24 and 30 in the intervening years.
Alessi Autos: When Benito Alessi and Lou Carpenter ran the caryard together, "Alessi Autos" was what Benito wanted to re-name it. Funnily enough, it went down like a lead balloon with Lou.

Altar: In the 1994 season finale, Mark Gottlieb left Annalise Hartman standing at it when he announced that he couldn't marry her as he was going to join the priesthood.
Ambrosia: A best seller among the Erinsborough male teens. This "gentleman's magazine" contained saucy pictures of none other than Jim Robinson's youngest, Lucy.

Amnesia: A rather common happening in Erinsborough. After falling from a ladder, Mrs. Mangel suddenly forgot her evil ways (and her husband, who'd walked out on her) and mended her broken bridges with Madge. After being washed out to sea, Harold Bishop re-appeared several years later as an amnesiac going by the name of "Ted", and dear old Susan Kennedy slipped on some spilt milk whilst rushing around the kitchen and thought she was sixteen for a few months.
Angry Anderson: Singer, probably most famous for his hit single, Suddenly, which was played as supercouple Scott and Charlene headed down the aisle, propelling it to chart success both in the UK and Australia.
AnnaJo Promotions: With Annalise and Jo being basically the same person, storylines were thinning out. Enter AnnaJo Promotions. The girls teamed together to help promote independent... people. Their number one client was none other than Flakey the Clown.
Anson's Corner: Neighbouring suburb to Erinsborough, and home to "that new French place".

Anzac Biscuits: An Australian biscuit, which Lyn Scully lists as one of her specialities. Here's how to make them:
Ingredients:
1 cup Plain Flour
1 cup Rolled Oats
1 cup Desiccated Coconut
1 cup Brown Sugar
1/2 cup Butter
2 tbsp Golden Syrup / Honey
1 tsp Bicarbonate of Soda
2 tbsp Boiling Water
Recipe:
Combine the sifted flour, oats, desiccated coconut and sugar in a bowl.
Melt the butter and Golden Syrup in a saucepan over a low heat.
Mix the bicarbonate of soda with the water and add to the butter and Golden Syrup.
Pour the liquids into the dry ingredients and mix well.
Spoon blobs of mixture, about the size of a walnut shell, onto a greased tin leaving room for the biscuits to spread.
Bake at 180C for 15-20 minutes.
Leave to cool on a wire rack. Store in airtight containers.
Arlenwood College: Boarding school attended by Lucy Robinson in the late 80s and early 90s, as the character became recurring whilst played by Sasha Close.
Arsenal FC: English football team; Rick Alessi and Debbie Martin watched them play during a trip to London in the early 90s.
Arson: Numerous incidents of arson have occurred during Neighbours' run, usually involving Lou Carpenter. He was framed by an employee when his caryard burnt down, and was later suspected of burning his 'bus-restaurant' as an insurance job, but it was later discovered to have been the work of disgruntled Jamie-Lee Duggan.

Asthma: A breathing disorder which both Billy Kennedy and Erin Perry have suffered from. Billy started swimming as a way to cut down on using medication.
Australia: The country that brought us Neighbours; where the show is set.
Ayers Rock (Uluru): Aside from being a landmark in Australia, the rock holds mystical propeties - as Hannah Martin soon found out. When her aunt Lucy gave her a piece of the sacred rock as a present, a number of bizarre occurances convinced Hannah that the rock was haunted. Oddly, when it was returned, the strange goings on stopped.
