Reference > A to Z of Neighbours: Letter C

The A to Z of Neighbours is intended to act as an encyclopaedia of everything to do with the show. These are the entries beginning with the letter C. If you feel that we're missing anything, please let us know, either by contacting us or in the relevant thread on the Message Board.

Cairns: City in Northern Queensland, where Karl Kennedy went for the funeral of his patient, Kate Cornwall.

Canberra: Capital of Australia and home to the Institute of Sport, where Pete Baxter was accepted to train as an athlete in 1988. Mike Young and Scott Robinson went along to write a story for the newspaper, but Pete was later forced to drop out due to an injury.

Cancer: Unfortunately several Ramsay Street residents have suffered from this disease. Luke Handley had his defining storyline when he was diagnosed with cancer, and of course Madge Bishop died from the disease. Dorothy Burke survived breast cancer as, more recently, did Steph Scully.

Car accidents: Many of Ramsay Street's residents have been involved in car accidents - often with tragic results. Daphne Clarke, Todd Landers, Cheryl Stark and Dione Bliss were all killed as the result of car accidents, and countless others have been run over, involved in accidents etc. One of the most legendary was Ben Atkins' crash, which was arguably one of the most spectacular stunts the show has ever pulled off.

Carpenter: Family headed by Lou. Offspring include Guy, Lauren, Ling-Mai and Louise. Ex-wifes include Linda and Kathy.

Carpenter's Cars: Lou's used car business featured heavily in the early 90s, and his empire was extremely successful. Partnerships with Benito Alessi and Julie Martin didn't work out, but when he teamed up with partner Cheryl Stark he seemed to be onto a winner.

Carpenter Mechanics: After Lou gave up the caryard, he ventured into a joint business with Ben Atkins, a garage with the confusing name of Carpenter Mechanics. Several Ramsay Street residents have worked there, including Steph, Stuart and Drew, who bought into the business.

Chez Chez: After the Waterhole blew up, new owner Cheryl Stark decided to revamp the place. What she needed was a new name, and after several drab suggestions, her nephew Sam Kratz came up with Chez Chez, which Cheryl loved.

Chooka: The nickname of Stuart Parker when he was growing up. Was only mentioned during the first few weeks of the character's run.

Christmas: Because Neighbours isn't shown during parts of December and January in Australia, the characters aren't always seen celebrating Christmas. However, the festivities have been seen by viewers in 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1991, 1996, 2003 and 2004.

Church: Several churches have featured in Neighbours over the years, the most famous being the Anglican Church on Church Street, which burnt down in the 4000th episode.

Clarke: One of the three original families on Ramsay Street. Eileen and Malcolm Clarke had a son, Des, who lived at Number 28. Des married Daphne and together they had Jamie. After Daphne died and Des had trouble finding a new love, he moved to Perth to be with new girlfriend Fiona.

Coffee Shop, The: The Coffee Shop has been a centre for all Ramsay Street activity since late 1985. Originally owned by Daphne Clarke, she came up with the imaginative name of Daphne's. After Daphne died and The Coffee Shop changed hands, it finally changed its name in the early 90s to The Hungry Bite, at the suggestion of Stephen Gottlieb. The logo used a surfboard which had a huge bite mark in it, after Brad Willis was attacked by a shark whilst surfing. After Mark Gottlieb became the manager, he re-named it The Holy Roll, as he had recently discovered religion, but this put many customers off. When Debbie Martin took over she re-titled it to the catchy "The Coffee Shop", which it has remained since. It features in nearly every episode.

Colac: Town in the state of Victoria and home to the Rebecchi and Timmins families.

Community Hall: Erinsborough’s Community Hall has found many uses in recent years, as the venue for everything from judo lessons and foxtrot competitions, to school formals.

Constructacon: Building firm which took over Willis Constructions when its owner, Doug Willis, was in serious debt.

Council: Many Ramsay Street residents – including Madge Bishop, Dorothy Burke, Julie Martin, Evan Hancock, Joe Scully and David Bishop – have run for council, with varying degrees of success.

Cricket: This sport is a favourite game for the residents of Ramsay Street and has featured in numerous storylines - including when Cody dressed up as a man named Willis Kennedy to get onto the men's university cricket team. It was also featured in the Neighbours credits in 1986, returning in 1994, 1997 and 2003.

Cruise: In 1991, Paul Robinson and Christina Alessi went on a cruise for their honeymoon and found themselves being joined by bridesmaid Melanie Pearson, when she failed to get off the ship in time. In 1997, Marlene Kratz headed off into the sunset to sail around the world on a luxury cruise for three months. Eight years have since passed and Marlene has never been seen or heard from since.

Cubbyhouse: Billy Kennedy and Toadfish Rebbechi built a secret cubbyhouse in the woods to hide out from their parents and look at copies of Ambrosia magazine. Hannah Martin was also a member of the club but soon got kicked out when she started getting on everyone's nerves.

Cults: Some of Ramsay Street's more suseptible residents have become sucked in by meaningless cults. Lauren Carpenter joined The Children of Barabas, but thankfully came to her senses. Likewise, Stuart Parker joined Life Mechanics, where he was completely scammed by conman Jonathon Verne.

Custody Battles: Maddy, Lolly and Sky have all been fought over in custody battles over the years.
