> A to Z of Neighbours: Letter D
The A to Z of Neighbours is intended to act as an encyclopaedia of everything to do with the show. These are the entries beginning with the letter D. If you feel that we're missing anything, please let us know, either by contacting us or in the relevant thread on the Message Board.
Dancing: Many couples – including Madge and Harold, Philip and Julie and Lance and Amy – have found a new pastime in the form of ballroom dancing. Most recently, Gino Esposito opened up a tango school in Erinsborough, causing a dancing war to break out between Harold, Liljana, Max and Lyn.
Daniels: Helen Daniels was an original Neighbours character. Although never seen, as they died before the show began, she had been married to Bill Daniels and they had a daughter, Anne. Helen’s adoptive daughter, Rosemary, made annual appearances in Ramsay Street until 1998. In 1991, Helen married bigamist Michael Daniels, cousin to her late husband.
Daniels Corporation: The American PR company run by Rosemary Daniels. In 1986, she decided to expand the company to Australia and chose Paul Robinson to run it. In 1988, the Corporation bought Lassiter’s hotel from Jack Lassiter and in 1989, Paul and Gail bought the Australian end of the company from Rosemary and renamed it The Robinson Corporation.
Darwin: City in Australia’s Top End and currently home to many ex-Ramsay Streeters, including Pam, Doug and Gaby Willis, Rick Alessi and the Martin family. The 1994 Big Bash, in which Mark Gottlieb and Annalise Hartman took part, began here too.

Dawber: Town in Queensland and home to a university where Anne Wilkinson studied art after leaving Erinsborough to be with Bill Kennedy.
Dayle: Hannah Martin was a huge fan of popstar Dayle and his (apparently only) song Ya Just Don’t Know in 1995, even pretending to be dying so he’d come and see her. Dayle also launched his own perfume line – Dayle Drops – which Lou Carpenter found he was allergic to.
Deaths: Ever since Daphne Clarke’s death in 1988, regular characters have been shuffling off their mortal coils at regular intervals. Fans wept over the death of Kerry Bishop at the hands of a duck hunter’s bullet in 1990, Cody Willis at the hands of a drug dealer’s bullet in 1996 and Madge’s death as the result of cancer in 2001, just to name a few.
Diabetes: Neighbour Danni Stark was revealed to be diabetic when she first arrived in Ramsay Street, having been forced to reveal her condition when she was mistaken for a drug user.
Diaries: Many a neighbour has had their secrets exposed when someone has sneaked a look in their diary. Serial diary-reader Billy Kennedy lost two girlfriends – Melissa Drenth and Anne Wilkinson – when he took a look at their private scribblings, with the incidents being a couple of years apart. You’d think he’d have learnt the first time.

Doctors: Many regular characters have been doctors, beginning with Clive Gibbons in 1986, who tried to keep his medical past a secret, until Max Ramsay suffered heart palpitations and he was forced to step in. Clive was replaced by Dr. Beverly Marshall, who was often too busy worrying about her marriage to treat anyone. In 1994, Dr. Karl Kennedy moved to the street and he’s been healing the sick, on and off, ever since. He was joined in 2001 by his nephew, Dr. Darcy Tyler, who tried to con his uncle out of the surgery before ending up in prison, then in a coma.
Dogs: In 1985, the Robinson family had Basil as a pet. When he drowned in 1987, he was replaced with labrador, Bouncer, who was as much a part of Ramsay Street life as anyone, until he left with Toby Mangel in 1993. Various dogs, including Bonnie, Holly, Bob and Audrey have lived on the street since then, but none have quite surpassed Bouncer in popularity.
Dreams: One of Neighbours' most famous dream sequences occurred in 1989, when Bouncer dreamt that he was marrying Rosie the sheepdog. The programme also began episode one with Danny Ramsay having a nasty dream about his brother, Shane. Other dreams have included Toadie dreaming about his wedding to Dee, only for Dee's face to be replaced with Sindi's, and pregnant Steph Hoyland suffering a series of bad dreams involving her old friend, Drew Kirk.
Duck hunters: Kerry Bishop was protesting against duck hunting when she was accidentally shot and killed by a stray bullet in 1990. 14 years later, her daughter, Sky, confronted the hunter, John Swan, who had murdered her mother, but realised that the guilt was punishment enough for him.
