Reference > A to Z of Neighbours: Letter E

The A to Z of Neighbours is intended to act as an encyclopaedia of everything to do with the show. These are the entries beginning with the letter E. If you feel that we're missing anything, please let us know, either by contacting us or in the relevant thread on the Message Board.

Eastside Dingoes: Local football team for which Paul McClain played and Karl Kennedy acted as team doctor.

Eden FM: The community radio station, affiliated with Eden Hills University under which it broadcasts the popular Uni-FM, for which Toadfish was a regular DJ in the late nineties.

Eden Hills: A neighbouring, and slightly more affluent, suburb to Erinsborough.

Eden Hills Grammar: A rival school to Erinsborough High, where the richer families seem to send their children.

Eden Hills University: The local university.

Elliott Park: A neighbouring suburb.

England: Madge and Harold Bishop visited England in 1990, while Debbie Martin and Rick Alessi spent some time in London in 1993. The Bishops' lodger, Eddie Buckingham, hailed from England, while Valda Sheergold apparently spent much of her life in Liverpool.

Episode Titles: Since mid-2004, Neighbours has broadcast episodes with unique names. This is a format almost unheard of in serial drama, but has been largely welcomed by viewers.

Erinsborough: The suburb where Neighbours is set. This name wasn't mentioned on screen until the series moved to Channel Ten.

Erinsborough Community Radio: Local radio station which gave Henry Ramsay his big break as a DJ. Lou Carpenter hosted an afternoon show on the station during his tenure as Mayor of Erinsborough, and Marlene Kratz later joined him as co-host.

Erinsborough & District Hospital: The local hospital, where almost every resident has spent at least one night.

Erinsborough High: The local high school. Teachers and school principals living in Ramsay Street have included Dorothy Burke, Wayne Duncan, Tess Bell and Susan Kennedy.

Erinsborough News: The local newspaper, where several of the residents have worked as journalists over the years.

Erinsearch: Internet search engine used by the residents of Erinsborough.

Erinsfield: The original name of the suburb before it was changed to Erinsborough.

Erinsmail:Email service used by the residents of Erinsborough.

Erinstown: Town in Idaho, USA, which has recently been twinned with Erinsborough.

Exercise: Several storylines in the series' history have revolved around characters trying to get fit, one of the more famous being the rivalry between Jim and Des, which led to the whole street taking part in a relay race around Erinsborough.

Exits: Most characters seem to leave the area either in a taxi or a coffin. The popularity of the character tends to equate to the effort that goes into their exit.

Explosions: The Coffee Shop exploded in 1988 when Sharon Davies threw a lit cigarette in the bin, whilst a gas explosion in 1993 devastated the Waterhole. Most recently, an arson attempt in 2004 brought about the end of the Coffee Shop and pub once again.

Extra: The characters who hang around in the background, and never say anything, during most scenes in the pub, Coffee Shop or school.

Extra-marital affairs: A staple of soap operas, although there have been relatively few in Neighbours' long history. The most famous occurred in the Kennedy marriage, when Karl shared kisses with Kate Cornwall and Sarah Beaumont. Doug Willis also strayed from his wife, Pam, and she turned to Jim Robinson for comfort.
