Comment > PB Loves and Loathes... August 2008

Our latest monthly feature, offering the PB team's highlights and lowlights from the past month on UK screens (episodes 5452-5471)

PB Loved...

• Finally getting some background on the Parker family

• Nicola shaking Ramsay Street to its very core. Or something

Marco's glasses

The return of Lyn - it's like she was never gone, and she finally got a proper exit scene after her lacklustre 2006 departure

Paul's affair being exposed - and Jane Hall's superb acting in the aftermath

• Riley's departure

• The increased use of music and montages

• Simone Buchanan's wonderful depiction of Sam

• Donna - an interesting new addition to the teen gang

• Callum Jones - a brilliant character and a great actor. A much more preferable situation that the previous idea to introduce Dia as a child for Toadie

• Excellent continuity with long-running guest characters like Detective Skinner and Judge Anderson

• Declan & Elle's reaction to the affair fallout. They both really wanted the proper family they very nearly had

PB Loathed...

• The recycling of the 'I'm not your real father' plot for the 239th time

• Sam lying to poor Dan

• The continued pointlessness of Sienna - we've had worse actors in the past, who've still been given stories of their own. Give the poor girl something to do!

Steve lying to Bridget - it was only a few months ago she was in trouble for lying about the dance party, now he's doing the same thing

Lyn not sticking around for long enough

Marco's father's name suddenly changing from Joe to Franco

The lack of nuclear families

The hasty conclusion to the Jim Parker storyline

Karl and Susan being underused
