Exam results, wedding plans and a couple of balls entertained the neighbours this week…
Sindi and Stuart’s continuing sexual tension was proving troublesome as Sindi especially became jealous of Stuart going out on the singles scene with Toadie. Stuart however apologised for any upset she may have felt by seeing him out with other girls. No.30 was filled with stress of another sort, too, as Lucia Cammeniti made Connor a sub-editor on “All Her” magazine. Realising his lack of ability in the reading and writing department, Connor enlisted Max’s help to edit the articles given, but as the work piled on from an impressed Lucia, Connor realised he couldn’t keep it up for long.

Erinsborough High’s formal period arrived this week – and the years eleven and twelve ball was held mid-week with the teens all preparing and scrubbing themselves up! Concerned that Brendan Bond and his football cronies were going to humiliate Lana in some way on the night, Sky decided that since it was a forgone conclusion Bond would win the sports award that she would swap the traditional trophy for a selection of Barbie and Ken dolls. However, imagine her shock when Boyd stepped up the podium and was humiliated instead. Realising it was Sky, he declared she’d overstepped the mark and he wouldn’t take her back. Too bad then that only a little while earlier he’d turned down Serena too as she offered to lose her virginity to him. A case of sour grapes ensued however as Serena later sabotaged a rendezvous between Sky and Boyd by repeating the wrong meeting time! Lana, meanwhile, got the most pleasant surprise of all on the night of the ball when Georgina, a classmate, revealed her true feelings towards her and the couple spent the evening talking and getting to know each other. Despite it being wonderful to see Lana find a soulmate who could be more than just a friend, the ease at which she and Georgina danced away publicly at the ball doesn’t quite sit easily considering how self-conscious Lana was only a few weeks ago and how worried she was of homophobic backlash at the ball itself.

Stingray, like the other teens, passed his exams and he was thrilled, but his happiness turned to unease as he realised that Janelle had secured him ‘fantastic job’ at a trashy supermarket in Colac. Realising he had little choice but to follow his mother out of town, he waved goodbye to everyone, including a tearful farewell with Susan. However, en route he discovered both a letter from Serena confirming their friendship which Janelle had kept hidden from him, and also that his mother’s injury had likely been all an act to gain compensation. Angry and filled with false hope of a reconciliation with Serena he demanded he be driven home to stay on in Ramsay Street. Susan welcomed him back and Janelle saw sense and the benefits of him staying put. But it wasn’t all positive, as Scott came to realise he had read too much into Serena’s card and he got suspicions that she was seeing someone else. Nell Feeney’s appearance as Janelle has certainly divided opinion among fans, but with Stingray’s mother and family due to move into Ramsay Street in a few weeks’ time, it looks like we’ll have to get used to seeing a lot more of the family Timmins! It’s likely, however, as with Valda, that Janelle will be toned down a little as she becomes a full time cast member.

Karl and Izzy’s wedding plans were up and down more times than see-saw at Lassiter’s park! Karl, in particular, was upset than none of the children had showed any interest in making the wedding and enlisted Susan’s help to try and make them come through. Izzy suffered another bizarre dream as she had a vision of herself talking to a comatosed Darcy in hospital, proudly declaring herself Mrs Karl Kennedy. A chat with Lyn later in the Coffee Shop, in which Ma Scully gave the waitress a peace of her mind with regard to the real meaning of love, fuelled Izzy with a desire to have the biggest and grandest wedding Erinsborough had ever seen! Karl was bemused by her sudden desire to go all big and glam, but ultimately was happy to please her. However, Isabelle’s sneaky ways continued when she discovered Darcy was coming out of his coma. Scared, she took her opportunity to sneak into her consultant’s office and stole her medical records. She later destroyed them in the Coffee Shop’s waste disposal unit.

And finally, events at No.26 were a little traumatic as Charlie’s health continued to deteriorate. Following a short stint in hospital, he revealed his wish to die in Lyn’s house and not in a hospital bed. Lyn was determined he needed medical care, but following a dangerous coughing attack whilst visiting his boat, ‘Sheergold Scandal’, in harbour, Lyn realised she couldn’t dictate to a dying man and he came back to the house. The stress of having her dying father back for Christmas was obviously traumatic for Lyn, and she opened up her emotions on camera as she recorded a monologue for David Bishop’s twin-town campaign. Summer, meanwhile, proved to be as much benefit to Charlie as he was to her, as they both talked openly and frankly about death. Summer later got ready for her Summer ball and was delivered to the community hall on Steph’s motorbike, which seriously increased her street cred among her peers! Life for the Hoylands wasn’t all rosy though, as Max discovered her owed thousands of dollars in tax having not declared some shares bought for him by Rosie. His spirits were lifted, however, as Steph revealed the latest bout of IVF had been successful and she could well be pregnant!
