Life in Ramsay Street continued to get more sinister and dark as truths and suspicions emerged…

The rising water level situation was investigated further when, against Paul’s wishes, Harold paid for an independent environmental investigation. However, it soon became clear that Paul knew more about the supposed impending ecological disaster than he was letting on, and blackmailed the independent scientist with information about his past life in the country. Paul made sure that this second round of testing would return with the same results as the first. Harold, however, was furious with David’s carefree attitude and the resignation to the fate of the suburb. In a wonderful scene, Harold reminisced about his links with No.24, the flowering buds that reminded him of Charlene, his ‘backyard chats with Henry’ etc. and stressed the importance Ramsay Street had. Worried enough with the prospect of losing his home and his wife’s family’s street, Harold didn’t need the additional stress of working alongside the mirror image of his late daughter, and in a bid to ease both his pain and her awkwardness, Gabby decided to quit her job at the General Store, but promised to stay in touch with Harold.

Also at the Bishop house, David was busy trying to make sure that his relationship with Lil didn’t stray too far from the straight marital path. Little did he know that his wife was confessing her feelings for Paul, but she was quickly rebuffed and told to sort out things with David before even thinking of making a play for him. Upon returning home, despite continuing to fantasise about Paul when embracing David, Lil attempted to convince herself that she really wanted her husband. As if things couldn’t get any more complicated, a knock at the door one evening signalled the start of a new batch of troubles as the police arrived to question David on allegations of fraud with regard to the Helen Daniels Foundation.

Janae Timmins continued to make a name for herself at Erinsborough High as she tried to woo Mike Pill away from his girlfriend, the formidable ‘Shazza’ who returned this week following a blissful few weeks off our screens. Susan was not amused, however, when Janae and Shazza had a catfight in the school corridor over wonderful Mike and gave them both a fortnight’s detention. Janae’s older brother, Dylan, meanwhile, was also getting himself into trouble with the influence of Roo having an effect. But, thanks to the advice of Paul, Dylan realised he could do himself a favour and stay on the right side of the law by getting rid of Roo for good. Pretending to be his ally in a robbery on the Scarlet Bar, Dylan had in fact tipped off the police who promptly arrested Roo, which judging by the embarrassing nature of the hold-up didn’t come a second too soon! His good boy routine didn’t last too long though, when he came very close to vandalising a BMW belonging to a client of Toadie’s that Dylan didn’t take a shine to and then got knocked out in a fight with local ruffians.

Sindi’s week was disastrous as she lost her job due to staff cuts at All Her Magazine, and then discovered she hadn’t been invited to a school reunion at the Scarlet Bar. To make matters worse, the reunion took place on her first night’s work behind the bar at the hotel and she had to confess to Izzy and Stuart that she had been badly bullied at school. However, things didn’t add up when the grown women at the reunion, including familiar face Sheena Wilson, didn’t seem to let up in their criticism of Sindi, nor did they let Stuart or Izzy get away with thinking that Sindi was as innocent as she made out. Determined to get to the bottom of it, Stuart and Toadie decided to organise a school reunion with Sindi’s actual friends from the past.

Boyd’s continued to be in a controlled coma, but when the time came to try and ease him out of it, the Hoylands were concerned that Boyd didn’t seem to be reacting to stimuli. Sheena admitted that unless he came out of his coma soon he may suffer brain damage as a result. More alarmingly, there was a risk he may never regain a state of consciousness. Max’s well known ability to jump to conclusions was apparent again this week as he made suggestions that Stephanie had allowed Boyd’s condition to deteriorate as it did. However, Summer quickly jumped to her defence and stressed that if anything it was Max’s fault for leaving the family when he went to the Timor Gap and couldn’t be contacted. Despite Boyd’s state, Sky at least drew comfort from the fact that Serena had assured her of his loyalty, despite temptation to sleep with Serena.

Elsewhere, after years of talking about it, Karl finally took the plunge and accepted a placement with Medecins Sans Frontiers abroad. And at No.30, realising that they would be guaranteed a fixed price for the value of the property under the compulsory acquisition plan following the water level investigations, the boys decided to personalise the house to their own specifications…

Notes: Zoe Stark made a welcome return to the show after a couple of years’ absence as Sheena Wilson.
