An old face returned to town and a new couple took the first steps toward romance…

Connor was in for a shock as he arrived at work one day to find Carmella there, waiting for him. As Carmella was in the midst of trying on bikinis and unaware that her boyfriend had already moved on with Serena, Toadie encouraged them to have a little chat in the privacy of the changing room. As Connor was breaking the news that he’d met someone else, who should arrive but the aforementioned someone else – Serena. Horrified to find her boyfriend in the changing room with his ex, Connor insisted that nothing was going on and he just needed some time to explain things to Carmella properly. And so, over a coffee, Connor told her everything about his new relationship and the news about Maddy’s operation. Carmella was upset that Connor had moved on, when he promised that he’d wait for her, and began to wonder if Serena was simply the first girl Connor could find who wouldn’t challenge him. However, having already exhausted his options for a loan – the bank and Paul Robinson – Connor decided to ignore Serena’s teenage tantrums and meet up with Carmella once again. This time, he wondered if she might be able to use a few of her “contacts” to get him the $50,000 he so desperately needed. Carmella was horrified that Connor still saw her as nothing more than a gangster’s daughter and turned him down. However, later, she called him and announced that she’d found the money but he could only have it on one condition. Believing that she and Connor were meant to be, and Serena was nothing more than a roadblock, Carmella told him that the condition of the loan was that they spent some time together – alone.

Meanwhile, Alex was also back in town after the camping trip and it was clear that his feelings toward Susan hadn’t changed. As they were reunited, Alex got down on one knee and presented Susan with a ring and a proposal, which she was happy to accept. The kids were also delighted with the news, and Susan then told Rachel and Zeke all about her three kids. That evening, however, Alex was brought back down to earth with a bump when he left the bedroom and collapsed in the kitchen. Susan and the kids were concerned as Alex continued to have dizzy spells the next day, and encouraged him to see a doctor, despite his assurances that he was fine. Alex then went to see a healer named Graham Harlin. Graham was familiar to viewers as con artist, and Life Mechanics leader, Jonathan Verne, who took Stuart for a ride back in 2003. Alex, however, was unaware that he was being conned, but decided at the last minute not to shell out the $5000 required for a full course of treatment. Meanwhile, Karl was back from London and straight into an appointment with Alex, still with neither of them aware of exactly who they were dealing with. Alex explained to Karl that he hadn’t told his loved ones about his condition and that he still held out hope that he would recover. Karl wasn’t so sure and he later ran into Susan and went back to number 28 with her to show her some photos of his trip. Cue Alex’s return and Karl storming out of the house, with Susan left believing that Karl was acting like a child because she’d become engaged to someone else. Later that evening, Alex made it clear that he would sue Karl if he broke confidentiality and told Susan the truth, but Karl warned Alex that if he didn’t say something, then confidentiality would be the least of his concerns.

At number 22, arguments were still going on about the bottle of pills, with Izzy insisting that she threw them away and Elle claiming that she found the bottle intact on the shelf. Despite Paul giving Elle his car and a trainee position at Lassiter’s, he was still convinced that Izzy was telling the truth, as he was the one person she didn’t lie to. After threatening to leave, Elle then agreed to stay, but Izzy warned her that if she ever tried another stunt like that, it would be her last one. Meanwhile, Dylan was less than impressed when Paul announced his plans to bring Elle on as a second trainee, but soon had other things to worry about when Sky decided that she was to paint him nude. And despite a lack of interference from Sky, Steph and Joe were still struggling to get along, until Boyd finally snapped and told them that they were behaving like idiots. Well, someone had to.

Elsewhere, love wasn’t quite running to plan for the Timmins girls. After seeking solace from their arguing families, Boyd and Janae shared a quiet moment together in the Timmins bus and ended up kissing. However, an interruption from Janelle sent Boyd running off, and left Janae believing that she wasn’t good enough. Janelle assured her daughter that she was very special and that Boyd didn’t deserve her. Unfortunately, as Janelle encouraged her daughter to scream abuse about Boyd in the bus, the man himself turned up and overheard everything. Meanwhile, Bree was delighted when Zeke returned from his camping trip and asked her on a date to Science Works to see the reptile exhibition. But as Bree prepared for the date, Zeke got caught up in his own family dramas and ended up forgetting all about it. Despite interference from an irate Stingray, Bree and Zeke managed to work things out better than most of the adults in the street, as Zeke apologised and they arranged to reschedule the date for another time.

Finally this week, Harold and Lil were shocked when David decided that he wanted to join the Salvation Army band, whilst Lou found himself a new place to live – a tent at West Waratah Caravan Park. Meanwhile, in an attempt to get back at Joe, Janelle kidnapped his secret weapon, Audrey, but Joe soon tracked her down and it looked like Janelle had simply made herself even more unpopular.
