Neighbours hit the new year in style, with a kidnap, armed robbery and plenty of secrets…

Stingray’s kidnap drama continued as Dylan found out that it was all part of Roo’s plan to get revenge. Viewers who were awake back in July will remember that Dylan dobbed Roo to the cops as he planned to rob the Scarlet Bar, causing his former friend to be arrested and sent back to prison, from which he seems to have escaped. With Stingray as the ransom, Roo and his mate, Terry, then forced Dylan to commit armed robbery at a local service station. With no choice but to agree, and no way of disguising himself, Dylan grabbed a cap and sunglasses on the way into the servo and terrified the shop assistant. With the task performed, Stingray and Dylan were allowed to go home, but Stingray decided that they should simply go to the police and explain what had happened. Dylan immediately laughed that idea off, not wanting to risk being thrown back in prison. Back at home, the pair were shocked when the robbery, complete with CCTV footage, was shown on the news. However, Stingray’s worst fears weren’t realised, as even Janelle failed to recognise her own son on the poor video footage. Although it looked like the pair of them might actually get away with their involvement in the robbery, it seemed that Stingray’s guilt might prove to be their biggest obstable.

Elsewhere, Karl decided that Susan’s feelings were more important than patient confidentiality, and so he broke the news to her about Alex’s illness. As Susan struggled to take in the information, she returned home where Alex was all ready to break the news himself. With Susan desperately looking online for some kind of cure or hope, Alex was forced to tell her that his illness was incurable and he only had months to live. The revelations kept on coming for Susan, however, as Alex packed his bags and informed her that he had only proposed marriage to secure a mother for his children. As Susan broke down, Alex managed to patch things up with Karl and the kids were left wondering what exactly was going on. Zeke jumped to the (possibly correct) conclusion that Karl was coming between Susan and Alex and confronted him. Meanwhile, Bree and Karl both offered Susan their support, with Karl even suggesting that Susan shouldn’t throw away the love she has for Alex. His words seemed to hit a nerve and, as Alex dropped the kids off a school the next day, they shared a hug and agreed to be friends.

Connor was back from Lorne with the news that Maddy’s operation had gone well, but it seemed that Carmella was still under the impression that their relationship stood a chance. As Connor tried to let her down gently, she furiously told him that her mob connections wanted their money paid back – and soon. A desperate Connor realised that he’d have to act quickly to get both Carmella and the mob out of his life – little realising that she actually got the money from her mother. That evening, having convinced Serena to leave for dinner with her family, Connor took the Bounce takings to the bank, alone. However, as Carmella arrived there to meet him, he thrust the money at her and told her to take it and go. He then burst in on the Bishops at the Scarlet Bar and announced that he’d been mugged. Another neighbour was up to no good elsewhere, as Elle continued to use Izzy’s drug addiction in an attempt to get rid of her. Having stopped spiking Izzy’s food, Elle was relieved as her dad suggested that Izzy should go away for some counselling. However, when Elle overheard Ned and Izzy having a private chat in her office, the old feelings returned for Elle and she decided to start spiking Izzy’s food again. However, the next morning, when Elle presented Izzy with a spiked cup of coffee, a detoxing Izzy turned it down. Izzy’s suspicions were immediately aroused when Paul walked in and went to drink the coffee, only for Elle to “accidentally” bump into him, making him spill it all. That evening, Izzy decided to act on her suspicions by swapping her plate of dinner with Elle’s. Elle immediately decided that she wasn’t hungry and Izzy announced her belief that Paul’s daughter had been drugging her. Unfortunately for Izzy, Paul refused to believe the allegations, but we all know that Izzy is not a woman to be messed with.

As the Timmins family continued to live in the bus, Lyn began to soften and, despite Joe’s pleading, allowed Janelle to park it outside number 26. She also gave the family permission to use the facilities in the house and, before long, they were taking advantage, eating the food and spending all of their time on her couch. Meanwhile, Janae’s relationship with Boyd suffered from a serious problem, namely Janelle’s attempts to give her daughter advice on her love life. Things were also awkward for the Kinksi siblings, as Bree refused to speak to either of them following her disastrous date with Zeke, whilst Toadie continued to suspect that Ned might be gay. Finally, the Hoylands were in for a creepy surprise, as Max started fixing up the spare room to be a nursery, and discovered a dusty old box under the floorboards. Things became more mysterious as the box brought about a nervous reaction from Harold, but Max was soon distracted as he continued his quest to complete his dream list before the baby was born.
