Despite only being a four episode week, Neighbours returned to its heartland and delivered some of the best, most unique and most poignant episodes in recent years...

Carmella stunned Oliver by turning up at the Robinson’s cabin and declaring her love for him, apologising for her actions, but found herself turned away, and Oliver soon found himself in bed with Elle. Paul then sent Ned off on a retrieval mission to get some information which could get Oliver his fortune back. Elle got the shock of her life as she called around to Ned’s for some loving and found her dad asleep on the couch. Paul & Elle demanded answers from Ned, but soon found themselves talking to each other and explaining exactly what had been going on, however, Paul warned Elle not to jeopardise his plans with Oliver.

As Karl & Susan made the most of their roommates being out, their passionate moment was disrupted by their return, however they soon found themselves enjoying beer and Aussie song, little knowing that Isabelle Hoyland was splashed across the front page of all the tabloids. As they enjoyed a leisurely stroll along the banks of the Thames, they spotted a homeless pregnant woman asleep on a bench with a paper over her head. Charitable as ever, Susan insisted they put some money in her cup, however as they did so and walked off along the path, the woman awoke, recognising the voices and revealed herself... it was Izzy! Stunned, Izzy contacted her (married) footballer boyfriend, Pete Gartside, who Karl had met the previous day and arranged to meet him, but the press were out to get them, and Pete decided to just give them what they want and go public. Meanwhile, Karl took Susan off on the London Eye and feeling on top of the world, she soon even more elated as Karl proposed to her again, and she accepted.

Frazer attracted the attention of a girl named Milly in Scarlet Bar, much to the chagrin of Rosetta, however Milly soon came under suspicion when things started to go missing from number 30. As Frazer confronted Milly and they broke up, Lolly returned the missing stuff, and found herself forced to explain all to Ringo, who asked Rosie to counsel her.

Pepper embarrassed herself by assuming that her former colleague, Red, had been sending her gifts and berated him for wanting to cheat on his pregnant girlfriend. Confronting Paul, Pepper soon became convinced he was her admirer and he was more than happy to play along.

Ringo continued to put his foot in it with Rachel as he assumed that her relationship with Stingray was more mature than it was and compared himself to Stingray. She reassured him that she was with him and not Stingray, which clearly showed who she wanted.

As Janelle’s 39th birthday approached again, the Timmins took the chance to celebrate as they received the news that the bone marrow transplant was successful. At the party, Steiger & Zeke were bewildered as to how old Janelle really was, but were told it was better not to ask. Meanwhile, as the Timmins, Steiger, Sky, Rachel, Zeke & Ringo partied and Janelle toasted to Kerry and the Timmins fighting spirit, Stingray began to feel tired and as the dancing began sat down. As Bree & Janae saw Stingray seemingly fall asleep, they rushed over and tried to rouse him, but soon realised that he had died. As news of Scott’s death spread around Ramsay Street, the community went into mourning, with Dylan’s grief turning to anger, which he aimed at Paul, kidnapping him to make him pay for having, in turn, caused Scott’s death through the poisoning of the wetlands. Meanwhile, Rachel pushed Ringo away, telling him that she needed to find a way to say goodbye without him.

Finally, the Timmins family, Sky & Toadie found comfort in the video diary that Stingray had made for Kerry, in which he spoke of all of them and their unique qualities which made him love them and said his own, Stingray-esque goodbye, simply saying “Cop Ya.”

Notes: Episode 5172 saw the welcome guest return of Natalie Bassingthwaighte as heavily pregnant Isabelle Hoyland, having left the show 115 episodes previously.
