A couple of surprise proposals caught two residents off-guard, while someone else found himself forced to flee for his life…

Toadie was forced to face the possibility that Scott may be suffering from ADHD this week, and this situation led to problems for several other neighbours. Problems began when Scott was up in court after being arrested for streaking at the footie. Having failed to tell Toadie, who was representing him, about his two previous convictions, the case almost fell apart. Toadie was forced to explain about Scott’s suspected ADHD, as well as offering to be his full-time guardian and make sure that he attended school. Scott was unhappy with these developments, but could see that he had little choice in the matter. However, when Karl attempted to bring drugs into Scott’s treatment, the young man refused to go down that route. Susan heard about it, and took the opportunity to take a swipe at her estranged husband. Afterwards, the couple realised that they’d have to work together to help Scott, and Susan began to tutor him at home, while also making sure that he ate plenty of vegetables. Scott’s relationship with Serena was also moving along nicely, as it seemed that she was softening toward her admirer…

The way that the character of Scott has quickly found himself integrated in so many different storylines, while also affecting characters like the Kennedys and Sindi, has been great to watch. The developing relationships that Scott has with both Sindi and Susan are particularly entertaining.

Given all his problems with Scott, the last thing Toadie needed, it would seem, was to become involved with the girlfriend of a gangster. However, there was little that Sindi and Toadie could do to avoid each other as she decided to support Scott at his court case. In the end, they could resist no longer and ended up sharing a kiss. Meanwhile, Rocco, aware of the growing friendship between Toadie and Sindi, decided that the only way to keep his girlfriend was to propose to her and divorce his wife. Sindi had little choice as the ring was placed on her finger, while Toadie, as Rocco’s lawyer, suddenly realised who Sindi’s married boyfriend was. This could have been another dull soapie love triangle, but the history between these three characters, as well as the obvious chemistry between Marisa Warrington and Ryan Moloney, has really added something to the plot. Hopefully they can maintain this interest as the story continues…

Lou found that his financial problems had really caught up with him this week, and was forced to take drastic action. Beginning the week with the awkward repercussions of his over-zealous hug with Susan, Lou found himself feeling more and more isolated from his friends on the street. Realising that Susan had told Lyn everything, Lou found that he couldn’t face anyone. He also realised that he was going to be unable to repay Rocco the money he owed him, but the Italian was one step ahead and made Lou an offer. With Lou having shares in a racehorse, Rocco asked him to switch his horse with one with longer odds, meaning that they could put a huge bet on and rake in the money. Lou, despite knowing that this practice was illegal, realised that he had no other choice but to get involved in the scam. Karl then informed Lou that the government was about to approve the periwinkle extract that they had used months ago to help with baldness, and so Lou decided to buy $50,000 of shares. However, by the end of the week, Lou was left with nothing, and with Rocco breathing down his neck, he decided that he had little choice but to leave Erinsborough for good.

After weeks of seemingly hitting rock bottom time and time again, this storyline finally picked up pace this week, with Lou finally having no way out. Tom Oliver’s performances tend to range from corny to believable, but it’s still great to have one of the oldest characters at the front of the action.

Connor and Michelle found their relationship altering as the week went on. After he split up with Carmella, Miss Cammeniti placed the blame squarely at Michelle’s door and headed over there to deliver a slap. Hearing what Connor had done, Jack was forced to mention Connor’s dalliance with Lori while Michelle was in New York. During a heated exchange in the pub, Michelle made it clear to Connor how hurt she was about his actions and more so, the fact that he hadn’t told her straight away. However, after he explained what had happened with Lori and her supposed abortion, it seemed to bring a new understanding between the couple. With Kate Keltie only back on the show for a few weeks, it’s quite obvious that this story won’t have a happy ending for everyone concerned. However, the show’s new habit of bringing back past characters and using past storylines as springboards for new ones, is proving to be very interesting.

And finally, Steph decided that the time was right to make an honest man of Max, so she proposed. Max was only too happy to accept, and the couple threw an engagement party in the pub. Unfortunately, Gus wasn’t too happy about this new bond in Max’s life, and even less happy by the interest Karl was showing in Izzy, leading to an awkward and embarrassing display by Karl in the pub, where he made his romantic feelings for Ms. Hoyland perfectly clear. With Gus also confusing Izzy by blowing hot and cold, and trying to get closer to Summer and Boyd, it seems that his true colours can’t stay hidden for much longer…
