Forbidden sexual activities and the odd beating formed the line up for this week’s Neighbours

Following on from Lana’s impression that Sky was more interested in her than she really was, the confused teen took her chance and kissed a sleeping Sky as they mucked around during a sleep over in No.24’s lounge room. The suddenness of the kiss shocked Sky, who pulled away in exclamation. Scared she’s ruined all hopes of friendship and keeping her attraction to women a secret, Lana fled and spent the next few days pretending to be overly straight in a bid to pass off the kiss as a joke. Sky, however, was not deceived, and similarly not at all put off Lana and vowed to help her face up to her sexuality. However, her mistake was in trusting Boyd to keep it a secret, and before long the whole class found out thanks to a childish blackboard slogan outing Lana. It would be inconceivable to briefly sum up Neighbours’ portrayal of Lana’s sexuality – but so far it has been fantastic, and very well received by long term and casual fans of the show alike. Fortunately, avoiding the tendency of other soaps to sensationalise, the Lana story has been sensitively handled and engaging to watch. One could say Boyd got some form of comeuppance as his poster campaign with Stingray continued and they both ran the risk of annoying their rival. Boyd, however, didn’t seem to care, and ended up getting a nasty beating as a result – attributing his injuries to a skateboarding accident to cover up his illegal poster campaign. It would seem Karl and Max were worried that Boyd was hiding some form of bullying at school, though, and they enlisted Susan’s help to try and find out the truth.

Serena and Luka’s relationship got more intense as Serena’s lust for him got the stage where she even suggested to Sky that Luka could be ‘the one’ and that she was ready sleep with him. Meanwhile, taking after her granddaughter, Svetlanka’s chasing of Harold bore fruit as she invited him to a night with her at the hotel. As we soon discovered, Harold needn’t have worried about his ability to please in the bedroom (or should that be spa?), which Lou also discovered when he arrived in the lobby with his friend’s ‘Function Rite’ only to be turned away by a grinning, dressing-gown wearing Harold. Lou’s love life, meanwhile, took a turn for the better, and immediately nose-dived to non-existence, when Connor discovered that the lady Lou had befriended on the Internet and arranged to meet for a date was in fact him, in Carol guise – the pseudonym he uses in his we-antics. Connor, however, didn’t have the heart to reveal the truth.

Good news for Libby this week came in the form of her restarting her job as media studies teacher at Erinsborough High. Initially worried the kids would give her stick over her dalliance with Taj Coppin, she soon put them in their place by being open with them and assured them she’d rather be asked anything outright, rather than suffer their sniggering. Her father’s mistress, meanwhile, was up to her selfish antics as she spent a fortune on baby clothes, and even went as far as to mark down the prices themselves when she got home to make it look as though she’d spent far less. At the same time, her brother and sister-in-law began their IVF treatment, with a comical scene involving Max fainting at the sight of Karl injecting Stephanie. He later had to practice the injecting method on an orange to overcome his fear of needles, and to be able to help his wife.

Jack and Summer finally made up following Summer overhearing him making a joke about her trying to make herself out to be older than her years, whilst Sindi and Toadie’s relationship looked unsalvageable as he decided he couldn’t commit to her to the extent that she desired. Sindi was naturally hysterical about this revelation and had to be consoled, again, by Susan and Libby. Stuart didn’t help matters by butting in and giving his opinion on Sindi’s attitude towards the relationship, causing her to be angry with him… Anyone would think there was underlying sexual tension between them!

Notes: On Monday’s episode (‘Risking The Secret’) Susan Kennedy’s name was altered in the closing credits to Susan Smith – reflecting her return to using her maiden name following the divorce.
