During Caitlin Atkins' various attempts to make trouble in Ramsay Street, there was one person who stood by her - best friend, and fellow swim team member, Mandi Rogers. Here, actress Sabina Lokic, who played the recurring role of Mandi between 1997 and 1998, chats to us about her time in Ramsay Street...

Had you done much acting before joining Neighbours in 1997?
I had done a couple of small roles on commercials and I had been in a lot of theatre productions before my role on Neighbours.

How did your role as Mandi Rogers come about? Was it just a typical audition?
Well my agent put me forward for the role. Then I was flown to Melbourne a couple of times for auditions, I was living in another state in Australia at that time. The audition was actually quite funny because I had to kiss Jesse Spencer [Billy].

Were you aware at the beginning that Mandi would be a recurring role and you’d be coming and going for quite a few months?
Yes. I was actually moved to Melbourne for the role.

Did you enjoy playing Mandi? How would you describe her?
I had a great time on Neighbours. She was fun to play, she was very motivated and really wanted to be a successful swimmer.

Mandi was almost fostered by Madge and Harold at one point – was there ever any discussion about making her a regular character?
I only had a guest role, but at one time there was talk of that.
