Written by John Hanlon, Directed by Gary Conway

Episode Title: Crash And Burn

Jack in on the phone to Mac in the Coffee Shop, asking if they can meet up. Caleb introduces himself to Izzy and Jack, and says that his father owns the restaurant. Steph sees Jack going out and tries to stop him, but he speeds away in the car…

Steph runs into number 32 and tells Max what has happened. She goes out to try and find him, despite Max’s reservations. Summer comes out and asks Max if they can talk about Caleb, but he sends her to bed.

..

Mac and Jack are in the pub when Steph bursts in looking for him. He kisses Mac so that Steph won’t see him. He then explains why he did it and Mac is confused as to why his sister would be looking for him. He defends Steph, and says that they should get going.

Steph arrives home without Jack, and Max suggests that she should contact Joe and Lyn. She says that she doesn’t want to worry them at the moment. She says that she remembers when they were kids, that she was always the one who was getting into trouble and needing to be rescued. Max thinks that Jack probably picked everything up from his big sister, but she’s not to blame for anything Jack does. Steph says that she just wants to protect her brother.

..

Liljana gets up and finds a sewing machine with a bow on it on the kitchen table. There’s a note which reveals that it’s a gift for her from David.

Outside a club, Jack is walking away from Mac, telling her that she’s ruining his life. She asks him why he’s suddenly behaving like this. He says that he was really making something of his life, until he started hanging around with her. He thanks her for ruining his life, then speeds off again in the car.

..

David asks Lil if she likes the machine. She’s quite unenthusiastic about it, but he says that now she won’t need to share clothes and can even whip up her own outfits. He tells her to think of the savings.

Jack is driving home when Mac phones him. He answers, and she tells him to come back and they can recover together. Jack starts to drift off, and suddenly careers off the road, knocking out the power in the neighbourhood. Mac starts screaming Jack’s name down the phone, as passers-by stop to try and help.

..

The emergency services arrive at the scene of the accident. The paramedics find that Jack is lying unconscious in the car, and they call for back-up.

..

Summer tells Max that the TV isn’t working and she tells him to call for a repair man. They realise that all of the power is out, and she says that she probably won’t need to go to school in that case. She tells Max that this is Caleb’s last day in town and she might never see him again. Max tells her that there’s no way she’s missing school. Steph then bursts in and says there’s no sign of Jack. Max says that he’ll take her out and they can look for him. He tells Summer to get her stuff and they can drop her off at school.

Mac arrives at the accident, and one of the police officers sees her and says that they hardly recognised her. She spots Jack’s phone in the car and quickly removes it, then moves away from the scene and breaks down.

..

At number 24, the Bishops are surveying the damage from the power shorting out everything. Harold says that he didn’t have circuit breakers installed, but Lil says that it’s David’s fault for buying that ancient sewing machine. Harold says that nobody is to blame for this and Lil apologises to David. David tries to phone the electrician and it’s busy, so Harold goes out to see if anybody else’s power is down.

At the school, everyone is outside in the corridors, as there’s no power. Summer starts talking about Caleb, and Lisa accuses her of making him up and starts laughing at her. Summer assures her that it’s true, and then Caleb arrives at the school on an electric scooter. Summer introduces Lisa to him as her ex-best friend, then they leave.

..

..

Harold, Max and Steph arrive at the scene of the accident and none of them are sure what’s going on. Steph suddenly notices that it’s Lyn’s car and she races off, with Max chasing her. He tries to stop her from getting too close to the accident.

Caleb and Summer arrive back at the school, and he asks if she can come and visit. She says that they’re not rich like his family, and she won’t be able to. Lisa appears again, and starts trying to chat up Caleb, but he tells her that he knows all about her and he doesn’t want to know her. Lisa walks away, humiliated and Caleb says that he should go. He gives her a friendship ring, and she says she’ll wear it all the time. He promises that he’ll come back, then he goes.

..

At the hospital, Steph is waiting for news. Max arrives and she tells him that nobody will tell her what’s going on. He offers to get them to page Karl, but he’s not working that day. She says that she isn’t going to phone her parents until there’s some proper news. Max reminds her of when Boyd had his accident, but Steph says that this is different. She says that she’ll tell them when the time is right, but right now, she just wants Jack to get through it alive.

..

At the Coffee Shop, Harold is on the phone to Max, and tells Lil and David that there’s no news. David says that this is the last thing Jack needed, what with trying to run the family business on his own. Lil says that they should phone Lyn, but Harold says that Steph wants to wait until there’s more news. Lisa comes in and sits with Summer. She sees the ring, and Summer explains that it was a gift from Caleb. Lisa says that it’s sad that they haven’t been talking lately and asks if they can be friends again. Summer tells Lisa that she’ll just have to wait and see.

..

..

Steph goes in to see Jack and he asks her what’s wrong with him. She tells him he has a ruptured spleen and several broken ribs. She asks if he remembers what happened, and he has a flashback to the crash. He lies to Steph that he can’t remember any of it, and apologises to her for everything. He tells her that he hid from her in the pub, then he starts coughing up blood and can’t stop…
