Magic Moments > 2024 > Max's Arrival/Shane's Return Episode 9145

Written by Stephanie Carter, Directed by Tony Osicka, Produced by Andrew Thompson

10: 12/11/24, Amazon: 12/11/24

Heath is killed by a crocodile after Holly pushes him into the water... Vera suggests that she could move into number 32... Byron tries to persuade the others to let Vera move in on a short-term basis... Nicolette lies to Melanie that Victor was hooking up with other women whilst chatting to her on a dating app... Melanie tells Vic that he should be with Jane... Melanie decides that she needs to leave Erinsborough... Vic asks Jane if they can give things another go... Nicolette tells Jane about the chat she had with Melanie... Jane decides not to say anything about this to Vic...

Jane and Vic arrive back at no. 24, where he's talking to her about the idea of setting up a book exchange at his new pub. She thinks it's a wonderful idea and suggests a nightcap, but Vic says that it's late and he has an early start. She requests a goodnight kiss and he kisses her on the cheek, but she says that he can do better than that. He leans in for another kiss, which is quickly interrupted by Nicolette arriving home. Vic takes the chance to leave, reminding Jane about their brunch the next day, then Nicolette asks her mum if things are going well. Jane says that she didn't say anything about Nicolette's chat with Melanie, but she can't help feeling like she's now second best. Nicolette says that Jane will always be Vic's number one, and that Melanie was no competition, but Jane wonders why Nic felt the need to interfere if that were the case. She says that Vic didn't really want to kiss her just now, and she's going to have to put his feelings to the test.

The next morning, Holly is leaving the hotel after a night shift. She's checking her phone when she gets an email from the Crimesborough podcast, requesting an interview about the Heath incident. She's just digesting this when a guy with a big backpack walks by and accidentally knocks Holly into the Lassiters pond with his bag. He's in the middle of a phone call and completely oblivious as Holly screams out at him to stop.

In his office at the hotel, Paul is finishing up a call with Terese, who is in rehab, when Leo arrives. He asks what's going to happen between Paul and Terese when she gets back, but Paul insists that the only thing that matters right now is Terese's health. They chat briefly about business at the vineyard, before Paul is surprised by the arrival of Shane Ramsay.

..

At no. 32, Nicolette is ready to give Byron all the gossip about their parents, but is surprised to find him making breakfast. He shows her the roster that Vera drew up, pointing out that it's his turn, but Nicolette reminds him that they were meant to be boycotting it. Byron is more interested in keeping the peace and takes Vera's breakfast over to her as she comes in and joins them. She's unimpressed with the poached eggs, claiming she prefers fried, and is about to tell them some news when Holly, still dripping wet, walks in and tells them what happened to her. Annoyed by the interruption, Vera then announces that she's decided to rent out the back room, as Sadie doesn't want to go on the lease and she needs some more certainty that the rent will be paid in full. She also points out that it'll be cheaper for everyone is the rent is split with another person, but Byron and Nicolette want to discuss it further. Vera then breaks the news that she's already posted an ad for the room.

Back at the hotel, Shane tells Paul that he's back to take care of some family business. He asks how Paul is bearing up, and Leo thanks him for the card and flowers he sent after David passed away. Shane says that he's sorry that he and Izzy couldn't attend the funeral, and Paul then asks where Izzy is. Shane explains that he's alone and that they've split up, though he doesn't actually know why - one minute they were having a great time on the French Riviera and the next, she told him it was over, offering no explanation.

..

At Harolds, Melanie has a coffee and a map open at the counter, but her mind is clearly elsewhere. Noticing this, Nicolette goes over and asks her about her trip, saying that not everyone can just pack up and go on an adventure, so Melanie is very lucky. Melanie agrees, and says that, once she's had the van serviced, she'll be leaving. Nicolette is surprised that she's leaving so quickly, but Mel says the sooner the better. Nicolette says that she's jealous of all the things she's going to do and the people she's going to meet, before going to make Mel her coffee, looking back over her shoulder, satisfied that everything seems to have worked out for the best after her interference.

At no. 24, Vic arrives and a scantily-clad Jane answers the door. He apologises if he woke her up, failing to take the signals, and tells her to go and get dressed or they'll miss their table for brunch. She suggests that they take their time and Vic finally gets the message but says that he thought they were taking things slowly. Jane says that they can still be spontaneous, and drags him off to the bedroom.

..

At no. 32, Holly is asking Byron's advice about whether she should do the Crimesborough interview. They're interrupted by Vera, who wants Byron to join her for the housemate interviews that afternoon. He tries to put her off, claiming that he and Nicolette are both busy so they should postpone, but Vera says that she'll just have to do the interviews on her own. Byron then tries a different angle, wondering if Vera is so desperate for money because she's gambling again. Vera is touched that he's worried about her, but insists that she's on the wagon but needs the money to get back on her feet. He then points out that Sadie will want a say, when she gets back from visiting her mum, and Vera finally agrees to slow things down on the hunt for a housemate.

Later, Holly and Byron are wandering the Lassiters complex, trying to forget their problems, when she spots the guy who knocked her into the pond earlier. She rushes over to confront him, calling him a psycho for not stopping to help her. She calls her a 'Karen' and asks Byron to get his 'yappy friend' to back off. At this point, Byron squares off with the guy, before Melanie steps in and stops things from escalating. The guy tells her not to worry as he's leaving.

..

At no. 24, things haven't gone well in the bedroom for Jane and Vic and he apologises, saying that he hasn't been intimate with anyone since the cancer treatment. Jane says that she didn't realise, and Vic insists that it isn't about her, though she then wonders if it might be about Melanie. He says that he's just nervous as he doesn't want to mess up this second chance with Jane, but she stops him, saying that there's something he needs to know.

In the Waterhole, Mel, Byron and Holly are having a drink, and Byron is glad that Mel stepped in when she did. She says that, hopefully, that's the last they've seen of him, while Holly can't shake the feeling that she's seen him before, wondering if he's a hotel guest. Just then, Paul, Leo and Shane walk in, with Holly surprised that her mum and Shane came to town without saying anything. Shane explains that they've split up and is surprised that Izzy didn't tell her own daughter, but Holly says that she can't keep up with all of her mum's boyfriends, before quickly apologising. Shane says hi to Melanie, saying that he was sorry to hear about her and Toadie, adding that they all seem to be unlucky in love. Mel says that some things aren't meant to be, adding that she's about to start a new chapter and she can't wait.

..

Back at no. 24, Vic is shocked to hear what Nicolette has been up to. Jane thinks that their daughter was just trying to help her; Vic says that he understands that, but Nicolette is a grown woman and has gone about it like a ten-year-old. Jane agrees, but is clearly upset when Vic seems to have a lot of sympathy for Melanie and worries about what she must think of him now. Jane asks how he feels now, knowing that Nicolette's lies are probably the only reason that Melanie is no longer interested in him. Vic insists that it doesn't change how he feels about Jane, but she isn't convinced and asks him if he's absolutely positive.

Outside the Waterhole, Holly and Melanie are walking out together, and Holly asks for some advice on the Crimesborough podcast offer. She explains that Liv sold the podcast and the new owner wants to interview her about what happened in the outback. Melanie is surprised to hear that Holly is considering it, warning that it still sounds risky, even with a new host taking the podcast in a more serious direction. Holly wonders if this might be her only chance to get across her side of the story, so Mel tells her to do whatever will make her feel better. Holly thanks her and asks if she really needs to leave town - Mel says that she does, as she needs to start learning from her mistakes. Holly wishes she could do the same, and Mel tells her that she'll get there, one day. Holly invites Mel over for a meal before she goes and, once alone, Holly then re-enters the Waterhole.

..

Inside, Holly goes over to Shane and asks exactly what her mum did this time. Shane says that they just weren't suited to each other but he clearly doesn't want to talk about it. Holly doesn't take the hint, so Paul drags her over to the bar to help with the drinks. At the bar, Paul tells her to back off as Shane doesn't need her inane questions right now, so she decides that she'll call her mum and ask her later. As she returns to the table, she spots her arch nemesis walk in. Byron hopes he isn't back for round two, but he and Holly are shocked when Shane then introduces the guy as his son, Max Ramsay The Second.

At no. 24, Vic sits down with Jane, who tells him that it's time to be honest - she's not the one he wants to be with. He says that they shouldn't do anything rash, but she says that they have a lot of history, so it's not like they're rushing into anything. She tells him how insecure she was during the final few years of their marriage and how, however much she tried, she couldn't trust him. Vic insists that he'd never hurt Jane like that again, and she agrees, saying that he and Melanie have done nothing wrong and perhaps they both need this fresh start, without all of the baggage. Vic wishes they could have had a clean slate, and Jane agrees, but says that she wants Vic to be happy and suggests that he should pursue this connection with Melanie while he has the chance. He tearfully nods.

..

Back at the Waterhole, Byron asks Holly how she didn't recognise Max, as his dad was dating her mum. She says that they were overseas for most of that time, though she must have seen a picture of Max at some point, as he did seem familiar. Meanwhile, over at their table, Shane is telling Paul how he thinks the close knit community of Erinsborough will be good for Max. Max clearly isn't keen on the idea, but Shane tells his son that it's time for a change and that he'll make friends quickly. Paul offers him a room at the hotel if he needs it, but Max says that he's already found somewhere to stay - it's nearby and he thinks his dad will be happy about it.

As Holly and Byron are walking into the back garden of no. 32, telling Nicolette about their encounters with Max, she is trying to tell them something, but it's too late, as they spot Max sitting in the spa. Byron is furious and tells him to get out, as Nicolette tries to chip in, but before she can say anything else, Vera appears, happy that Byron has met his new housemate. He's horrified, as Vera explains that he was easily the best candidate and she offers him a towel as he smugly gets out of the spa.

..

At her apartment, Melanie is on her way out when her phone rings - it's Vic. She tells him it's not a good time, but he says that they need to talk, explaining that Nicolette lied and why. Melanie becomes tearful, wanting to know why he needed to call to tell her all of this, as he's with Jane now. He says that Jane ended things, as she could see that he had feelings for Melanie, adding that he can feel their connection and he would never see anyone else behind her back. Melanie says that she's been in this situation before and someone always ends up getting hurt - and he's still her friend's ex-husband. Vic wants to see where things might go between them, but Mel says that she can't do this to Jane. She tells him that the connection is gone and she wants him to leave her alone.
