Casserole [Cassie] 1994-2006
Lived: 28 Ramsay Street

Whilst out on his paper round, Billy Kennedy got distracted by the piles of hard rubbish people had left out for collection, thinking he’d be able to find something to furnish his new cubby house. What he didn’t bank on finding wandering the streets was a lamb. Only months before, Billy and his family had moved to Erinsborough from the country town of Greendale, so he took the lamb home and the family decided to make use of it in the back garden, since their lawnmower hadn’t worked since the move. Casserole, or Cassie for short, remained in the garden for over a decade, often acting as a listening post for Billy, or his siblings Mal and Libby, to complain about their love lives.

Cassie herself had a glimpse of romance when greyhound Suede Tess was bought by Lou Carpenter and Philip Martin, but it was to be shortlived, as Phil and Lou couldn’t risk anything getting in the way of their dog making money at the track. In 2006, having lived in the Kennedy garden for 11 years, Cassie passed away, but her death briefly united Billy’s parents, Karl and Susan, who had divorced in 2004, with Susan still living in their home on Ramsay Street. Several of the neighbours then turned up as Cassie was buried in the back garden that had been her home, and lunch, for so many years.

Trivia Notes
• In 1999, the original Casserole was replaced with a lookalike when Animal Actors took over as suppliers for all of Neighbours animal needs
