Whilst trying to track down his estranged wife Samantha to discuss a divorce, Dan Fitzgerald contacted family and friends, eventually getting in touch with their old friend, musician Carli Chan. Carli explained to Dan that she'd seen Sam, who suffered from bi-polar disorder, several months earlier, having a manic episode in a bar, drinking and trying to get a party started at eleven in the morning. The following day, having heard that Dan was looking for her, Sam turned up in Erinsborough, got out of a taxi and kissed him.
