Guest Character Profiles > Li-Kim Chen Kate Song

Li-Kim Chen 2017
Parents: Lesley
Occupation: Lassiters Hotel Housekeeping

As Xanthe Canning started attending summer school lessons at Erinsborough High to try and improve her grades, she befriended another student, Li-Kim Chen. Impressed by how intelligent Li-Kim seemed to be, Xanthe asked her what the secret was, but Li-Kim explained that she just spending a lot of time studying. Later that day, when Li-Kim didn't return from a bathroom break, she was found flirting with Ned Willis, who was doing odd jobs around the school as part of his community service and had taken off his shirt due to the heat. A couple of months later, Li-Kim met with Piper Willis, who had gone into business providing her classmates with fake IDs. As Piper handed Li-Kim an ID under the table at Harold's Cafe, she was caught by teacher Elly Conway.

Later in the year, Li-Kim overheard Ben Kirk and Yashvi Rebecchi talking about an embarrassing situation they'd found themselves in - when they fell asleep on the couch together and the Rebecchi house, then Yashvi's parents found a condom wrapper in the bin, they assumed that the teenagers had slept together. Though they hadn't done anything, Li-Kim made sure to tell Xanthe, Ben's ex, about Ben and Yashvi's supposed hook-up. Whilst Xanthe was upset by the rumours, Yashvi, who'd only been living in Erinsborough for a few months, suddenly found herself very popular with her classmates. Wanting to prove that she and Ben were together, Yashvi spotted an opportunity when she was using his laptop and found some old naked photos of him that he'd sent to his ex, Emma, who had shared them around on social media when she dumped him. Yashvi sent a photo to classmate Freya Stone as proof that she and Ben really were in a sexual relationship and, before long, word was out at the school. Li-Kim then told Xanthe that she'd seen the photo, with Xanthe left believing that the stories about Ben and Yashvi were true and that she had no chance of getting back together with her ex.

A few weeks later, Li-Kim attended the opening of the Erinsborough Book Exchange at Lassiters Lake, part of a plan to win a liveability award for the suburb. Soon after, when Jack Callahan became the new counsellor at Erinsborough High, Li-Kim and her friends were impressed with the new staff member and Li-Kim told Elly that she was stressed about the upcoming exams and needed to take some time out of class to talk to the new counsellor.
