Marina Costello 2012
Occupation: Artist
When Lou Carpenter decided to take up painting in his retirement, his initial
attempt to paint a portrait of Susan Kennedy ended badly, so he opted to move on to more abstract work. His next piece, which he named Number 7, was met
with little praise by Vanessa Villante, with whom Lou shared his house, so he took it along to the community centre, and showed it to Marina Costello,
who ran the art classes there. Marina was keen for Lou to show his piece in an exhibition later that week, and Lou was delighted, until he realised that it was an exhibition for senior
citizens, and that everyone received a special commendation, at the very least, and there ended Lou's brief interest in art.
