Bill Daniels grew up in the countryside and married his childhood sweetheart Helen Simpson when she was just 17. They had their only naturally born child, Anne, shortly after. Following the birth, the young couple received the shocking news that Helen would be unable to have anymore children. They were concerned that Anne would grow up lonely, so decided to adopt Rosemary five years later. Bill’s two daughters were both academically gifted and attended university. Anne met Jim Robinson there and they married quickly. Rosemary graduated with honours in business and finance and then moved to the USA where she began The Daniels Corporation.

When Helen was away visiting family one night, Bill spent a drunken evening with Grace Barnett who had been a friend of the couple since childhood. Grace had always been in love with Bill and took advantage of the situation, but she never told him the extent of her feelings and moved to London soon after. Bill never told Helen the truth, but her younger sister Laura finally explained what happened many years later.

Bill and Helen had a blissful family life as Anne produced grandchildren for them through the 60’s. However, the happiness was shattered when, following a short illness, Bill died in 1969.
