When Kathy Carpenter hired a private investigator to trace her missing granddaughter - the baby she'd had illegally adopted out twenty years earlier - she was surprised when it didn't take long for the girl to be found. Kathy met with the girl, Megan Dennison, who came from Canberra, but Paige Novak - who'd been helping Kathy with her plans to open a new shop in Erinsborough - tried to muscle in on their meeting. Kathy managed to get rid of her, little realising that Paige was actually her missing granddaughter, and knew that Megan was a fake. As Megan spoke about her hobby of making jewellery and her abandonment issues, Paige finally saw an opportunity to step in when Kathy went to the bathroom. Paige then approached Megan and said that she didn't know whether this was a mistake or a con job, but Megan wasn't who she claimed to be. She suggested that they should go for a walk, and a little later, Kathy was surprised to receive a text message from Megan, saying that their meeting had been a mistake.
