After being thrown from his horse at his family’s farm, Drew Kirk was rushed to the Oakey & District Hospital, where Dr Batchelor explained to Drew’s father-in-law, Karl Kennedy, that Drew had suffered from haemorrhaging, spleen and liver damage, and would have to endure a long operation. Tragically, Dr Batchelor then had to come out and break the news to Karl that Drew had not survived and he, in turn, told his daughter, and Drew’s widow, Libby, who was devastated.
