When brothers Shane and Danny Ramsay were involved in a collision with a speeding car, which was trying to escape the police after robbing Pacific Bank, Shane, a promising Olympic diver, ended up being the more seriously injured of the two. Dr Lockyer broke the news to their parents, Max and Maria, that Shane was in surgery and it was touch and go and later, surgeon Dr Rowlands came out to tell them that Shane had pulled through, but there had been some damage to his spinal chord. The next day, Shane was struggling to move, but Dr Rowlands visited and encouraged him, telling him that it was just bruising around his spine, so his struggles were all in his head. This plan failed, but when Dr Rowlands found out that Danny was refusing to eat until he knew that Shane was recovered, he passed the news on, spurring Shane to move his fingers and toes.
