Struggling in her senior years at school, Janae Hoyland started asking her friend Joanna Fleming to write her essays, paying for $50 for each one. When Janae then asked for a new essay at short notice, Joanna demanded $100, and, when Jo phoned and left a message for Janae, her husband Boyd found out about the scam. Janae promised that she'd stop getting Jo to do her work, insisting that she'd just started writing her latest assignment, but when teacher Susan Kinski mentioned how much Janae's work had improved that week, Boyd was suspicious. And when Jo then went to hand over the work to Janae - a book report on Tess of the d'Urbervilles - Janae tried to take it, explaining that she'd have to pay later, but Jo refused to let go and it ended up getting ripped. At the same moment, Susan walked in and found out what was going on. Janae was suspended for one week, but she then announced that she'd had enough of school and had decided to quit.
