After returning to Erinsborough in 2025, Dr Darcy Tyler's family struggled to trust him after the terrible things he'd done in the past. Whilst his aunt, Susan Kennedy, wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt, her husband Karl found it more difficult to let him back into their lives. When Darcy found out that Karl was suffering from a painkiller addiction, following leg surgery, he offered to keep quiet about it and help with his withdrawal, later using what he knew as leverage to get a job, alongside Karl and Susan, at retirement complex Eirini Rising. With Karl growing increasingly uncomfortable, he contacted Darcy's ex, Tess Bell, who Darcy claimed he had been in touch with and that she'd forgiven him for everything. Tess, however, revealed to Karl that she and Darcy had actually been married for two years and that he'd treated her terribly and had left owing her money. She also told Karl that Darcy had been in business with another doctor, Anthony Halsworth, who he also owed money to.

When he was mysteriously drugged, Karl was sure that Darcy was somehow behind it, but was unable to prove it. Deciding that he needed to keep his enemies close, Karl acted like he was trying to move on, but secretly started trying to work out what Darcy was up to, and decided to get in touch with Dr Anthony Halsworth to find out more. Though Anthony claimed that things had ended amicably between him and Darcy, he turned up at Eirini Rising the next day. He confronted Darcy, having been interested to learn from Karl that his former business partner was planning to open another clinic. Though Darcy had now paid Anthony what he owed him, Anthony made it clear that he wanted fifty percent of the new business venture, cryptically insisting that Darcy owed him for the way things had ended. Darcy said that it was going to be a while before he could start the new clinic, as people would ask questions about where he'd managed to get the money for it - failing to mention that he'd stolen over $2 million dollars worth of shares from recently-deceased Eirini resident Amanda Harris. Realising that Darcy was up to his old tricks, Anthony refused to take no for an answer, suggesting that they could say that he was an investor. When Susan then walked over, Anthony quickly introduced himself, saying that he was investing in Darcy's new clinic, leaving Darcy with no choice but to go along with it, and leaving Karl further intrigued when Susan casually mentioned her earlier meeting with Dr Halsworth.
