After falling out with the employees of the building site he was managing, Irishman Connor O'Neill was reported to the immigration authorities by workman Jim Baynes. When immigration then called him, Connor, and his girlfriend Michelle Scully realised that he'd broken the terms of his work Visa by staying employed at the building site for more than three months. When they then spotted immigration official Bruce Hanson arriving at 26 Ramsay Street, they decided to avoid being split up by doing a runner. Bruce then explained the whole situation to Michelle's parents, Joe and Lyn, telling them that the longer Connor avoided getting in touch, the worse it would look. In the country, Michelle and Connor hatched a plan to get married, so that he could stay in Australia, but he couldn't go through with it and, whilst planning to leave for Ireland, Joe found them at the airport and took them home. There, Bruce accepted the explanation that Connor was illiterate and had breached the terms of his Visa unintentionally - but insisted that they'd be keeping a close eye on him from then on.
