A regular user of the Erinsborough book exchange, Piper Willis started to notice that passages were underlined in the many of the books that were being left there. Already struggling with the end of her relationship with Tyler Brennan, Piper began to obsess over the underliner, feeling that they had a connection. Desperate to find out who it was, she started keeping an eye on the exchange, worrying her friends and family. Whilst there with best friend Xanthe Canning one morning, Piper saw a man leave a book inside the exchange and, realising that it had passages underlined and that it was one of her favourite books, she decided to follow the man, believing that he was the mystery underliner. After seeing him go to The Shed, the gym owned by Aaron Brennan, Piper asked Aaron about the man and found out that he was called Lockie and worked at the Back Lane Bar.

Piper then sent Xanthe a message cancelling their plans for the evening, explaining that she was going to the bar, where she quickly struck up a conversation with Lockie. He then allowed her to believe that he was the person she was looking for, but as the evening ended and they started chatting properly, she realised that he knew nothing about the book and he admitted that he'd been returning it for his mum and that she had received the book with the underlining already in it. Upset, Piper then became concerned as Lockie locked the door. Meanwhile, as Xanthe mentioned Piper's evening plans to Aaron, they realised what she was up to, and Xanthe immediately started to worry when Aaron mentioned Lockie's reputation as a sleaze who came on very strong with women. As Xanthe raised the alarm, she and Piper's mum Terese made their way to the bar, where Piper had already kneed Lockie in the groin and grabbed the keys to escape. Having failed the find Piper, Xanthe and Terese were relieved to learn that she'd made her way back to Ramsay Street and, the next morning, she reported Lockie's actions to the police.
