Guest Character Profiles > Jake Hendra Guy Greenstone

Jake Hendra 2018

As Yashvi Rebecchi took part in her first football game, having done work experience with a local club and quickly developed a keen interest in the sport, she was unaware that there was a football scout watching. Her parents, Shane and Dipi, had decided to keep this information from her, feeling that it would be too much pressure. However, she soon found out and her parents were impressed as she took it all in her stride, which was more than could be said for Dipi, who was attending her first game and getting carried away as she shouted support at her daughter. Things then quickly escalated as she got into an argument with another parent, Jake Hendra. As Yashvi was then about the take a final kick, which could win or lose the game for her team, Jake started shouting at her and Dipi finally snapped and ended up punching him. The drama in the crowd then caused a distracted Yashvi to miss her goal, though she found out a few days later that the scout had been impressed and might be interested in signing her on the following year's draft.

A couple of weeks later, just as Dipi had managed to start fixing things with her daughter, Jake came into her cafe, Harold's, and Dipi warned that she would only serve him if he apologised to Yashvi for the abuse he'd thrown at her. When Jake refused, Yashvi was mortified when her mum then barred Jake from the cafe. With friends and family showing little sympathy for Dipi and her recent actions, things worsened for her when Jake set up a Facebook page, explaining that he'd been assaulted and then barred from Harold's and asking people to boycott the cafe. Though Dipi tried offering coupons for free food, the campaign started to have a serious effect on her business but she refused to back down, believing that she was in the right and showing a good example to her kids.

However, matters only got worse when Lassiters hotel, where the cafe was situated, became uncomfortable with the bad publicity and started pushing Dipi to fix things. With the Rebecchi family's place as The Face Of Lassiters under threat too, Shane pointed out to his wife that her actions had gone too far and her behaviour was actually setting a bad example to their daughters. Dipi then asked Jake to meet with her and she apologised for banning him from the cafe, making it clear that she wasn't making the apology because of his boycott campaign, but because she needed to set a better example. Jake accepted this and agreed to end the boycott, but as business failed to return, Dipi started to worry that her actions might have ruined the cafe for good. It wasn't until Shane started ringing around their friends and neighbours and the people of Erinsborough rallied behind her, that Dipi realised how lucky she was to have such great family and friends.
