As businessman Simon Horwill walked home from work, he spotted young Mickey Gannon sitting alone and looking upset outside a row of shops. As Mickey explained that he was far from home and didn’t know how to get back, Simon put his briefcase down and went into the shop to try and find someone who could give them a lift back to Ramsay Street. At that same moment, Declan Napier, a teenager who’d befriended Mickey on the streets of the city, came out of the shop and grabbed the briefcase. Mickey and Declan then ran off, with Simon attempting to give chase, but slipping and hurting his ankle in the process. He contacted the police, who took all of the information and realised that the younger boy matched the description of missing Mickey. They contacted Mickey’s dad, Ned Parker, who admitted that he had no idea who the older boy could be, leaving the police with few leads to follow up.
