Worried that a leaked sex tape was going to destroy his career at Lassiters Hotel, Zac Willis decided to have laser treatment to remove a tattoo on his bum, the only thing from the video that could identify him. Having been told that it wouldn't hurt too much, Zac went to the first session on his day off, but was alarmed to find that it was incredibly painful and that he was struggling to even sit down. When his boss, Krista, called him in to help with a pitch for the hotel to host an event for the Inspiring Young Persons charity, Zac was forced to help out, with their rep Emy struggling to understand why Zac didn't want to sit at their table and appeared to be in a great deal of pain when he bent down to pick up her bag.

Despite their strange first meeting, Emy agreed to work with Lassiters and, a couple of weeks later, she met with Krista and Zac again, this time to hear their finalised plans for the gala, which was due to take place the following week. She was impressed with everything they had planned but explained that the person she'd hired to MC the event had pulled out and that she needed someone young and inspiring to take their place, indicating that she'd like that person to be Zac. Though reluctant to be in the limelight after recent events, Zac struggled to find a reason to turn it down and when Krista suggested that it would also be good for the hotel's reputation, he was forced to accept the offer.
