Whilst running the Buddy Club for local youngsters, Kyle Canning and David Tanaka were surprised when they spotted a gun in the bag belonging to a a young boy named Caden. Kyle was certain that it was a fake toy gun and was shocked when he pulled the trigger and it fired, terrifying everyone in the vicinity. As the rest of the kids were taken to the Community Centre, Kyle accompanied Caden as he was questioned by the police and later sat with him as they waited for his dad to pick him up. During their conversation, Caden admitted that, although he'd found the gun and thought it was a toy, he hadn't found it in the bushes as he'd claimed, but rather in his sister's car and he was afraid of her finding out. When it turned out that the gun had been created using a 3D printer, Kyle's friend Ned Willis was worried when he heard about it, along with the mention of Caden's sister, Greta Hutchins. After Kyle caught Ned hassling a frightened Caden about what he knew about the gun, Ned admitted to Kyle that he'd met Greta at an illegal fight club and he was worried that it was just the tip of the iceberg in a bigger crime ring.
