After dropping by Fitzgerald Motors one day to report a weird noise that his car was making, Seamus Illich was immediately attracted to mechanic Chris Pappas, and the feeling appeared to be mutual, with Steph Scully - who was minding the garage for the day - noticing what was going on, and sending Chris off outside to talk to Seamus. They arranged a date for that night, upsetting Amber, a teenager who'd recently moved onto Ramsay Street, who'd developed a crush on Chris after he'd helped her through some problems.

When Chris and Seamus met up for lunch the following week, things were going well, despite Chris's nerves, until Amber suddenly showed up at the bar, claiming that she had a free period at school and wanted to get some potato wedges. Later, Amber told Chris that she was just trying to be a friend and to look out for him, after her own bad experiences with guys, but was upset when Chris agreed to go out for dinner with Seamus that evening. Later, as Seamus waited at the bar for Chris to arrive, Amber went to see him and told him that Chris had been through a bad break-up and she just wanted to make sure that the next guy didn't hurt him. Seamus then told her that he wasn't looking for anything serious, just some fun, and, when he left to go to the bathroom, she used his phone to send Chris a text message, cancelling the date. Amber then left, and bumped into Chris outside, where he told her about the message. She said that perhaps Seamus wasn't worth the effort, but later, when Seamus denied sending the message, Amber was forced to own up, insisting that she'd only been doing it for Chris's benefit.
