Mikhail Irtenev 2006
When Mishka Schneiderova, a newcomer to Australia, took her boyfriend, Lou Carpenter, along to a meeting of the local Russian club, they met Mikhail Irtenev. Mikhail shared Mishka’s love of vodka and, when he found out that Lou and Mishka had been brewing their own, called Old 997, he quickly bought a bottle, but was thrown out of the Scarlet Bar by owner Max Hoyland for drinking it without purchasing anything else. When Lou’s friend, and landlord, Harold Bishop, found out about the vodka, he promptly asked Lou and Mishka to move out, before leaving for a two-week tour with the Salvation Army band. With Harold gone, Mishka decided that they needed to come up with a plan to prove to Harold that he couldn’t live without them. They enlisted Mikhail’s help for the plan, arranging to him to “break in” to the house as a burglar, who would then be caught by Lou, who would save the day. Later that night, Lou caught someone breaking in and threw him out, only for Mikhail to turn up a few hours later, apologising for being late. At that point, they realised that it had been a genuine burglar that Lou had tackled.
