Amelia Jones 2025
Occupation: Councillor

After journalist Elle Robinson stumbled upon a huge story, when she spotted some police files at neighbour Cara Varga-Murphy's house, she decided to go ahead and publish what she'd found out, unaware of the drama she was about to cause. The story involved an investigation into the Linwell brothers, who had gone to prison a couple of years earlier after Cara gave evidence about the dodgy work practices on their construction sites. Now a cop, Cara was convinced that they were somehow involved in a series of copper thefts from building sites in the area, particularly as one of their stooges, Ricky Denham, had been arrested nearby. Now a cop, Cara was determined to prove a link, hoping to prevent the Linwells, who'd previously threatened her family, from getting parole. After overhearing Ricky Denham talking to someone on the phone about how they had someone on the inside of the government, known as 'Jonesy', helping them, Cara's investigation started to ramp up, but it was all jeopardised when Elle's article was published.

The article once again put Cara's family in danger, with the Linwells quickly linking her to the whole investigation and, after she received threatening messages, her wife and kids were sent away for their safety. Elle, meanwhile, was focused on finding out the identity of 'Jonesy' and was convinced that one of the councillors, Amelia Jones, was who she was looking for. With a lot of people jumping to the same conclusion, a stressed Amelia ending up damaging her car as she reversed into a pole and, whilst walking past Fitzgerald Motors, Elle came up with a new plan. Elle told garage manager Hudson that she was a friend of his co-worker, Max, and then got chatting about the recent accident involving a councillor. When Hudson pointed out the car that belonged to Amelia, Elle waited until his back was turned and then snuck in for a snoop, finding a credit card statement. Believing that she'd found evidence of Amelia's corruption, Elle then had a second article published, claiming that Amelia had rushed through the building permits for a myotherapy clinic and was now getting discounted treatments there. A furious Amelia then turned up on Ramsay Street with a full explanation for everything - the permits had gone through quickly because it was a quiet period, and she'd been using a gift voucher to pay for her trips to the council, with the small charges to her credit card being from her visits to its cafe. Unfortunately, Elle's article had already caused doubt and, after being told that she was being suspended from council pending an investigation, Amelia was then signed off on stress leave.
