When Chloe Brennan took over as the manager of Lassiters Hotel in Erinsborough, she soon found herself being tested by Lucy Robinson, Head of Lassiters Worldwide. As they were hoping to hire a new general manager on a five-year contract, Chloe was informed by her husband, and co-owner of he hotel, Pierce, that Lucy wanted her fired and to put someone else more experienced into the role. He explained that, if she could hit the very difficult targets that Lucy had set, in the next fortnight, then there might be a chance of them keeping her on and Lucy then sent in consultant Anita Kent to assess Chloe's progress. Feeling that she'd been set an impossible task, Chloe turned to the hotel's former manager, Terese Willis, who'd left under a cloud the previous year, for help. With Terese's assistance, Chloe then managed to impress Anita by booking a three-day conference at the hotel, with the potential of it becoming a yearly booking, and later showed her long-term pitch, again with help from Terese. With Anita very impressed, she said that she'd be recommending to Lucy that Chloe should stay on in the manager's role but, the next morning, Pierce and Anita walked into the office just as Chloe and Terese were discussing their secret. Anita then warned that she hadn't spoken to Lucy yet and it was now going to be a very different conversation, but Terese managed to persuade her that it wasn't as bad as it seemed and that she'd only helped Chloe a little bit. Anita then agreed to give Chloe more time and to not say anything to Lucy yet, but Chloe soon found herself with another hurdle when she realised that she'd only been given the job because she was Pierce's wife and that even he felt that she wasn't up to it.
