When Pepper Steiger announced to her assembled class that Susan Kinski would be returning to her job teaching at Erinsborough High that morning, following an incident in which she’d fallen asleep at the wheel and run down student Bridget Parker, student Tom Langley promptly made the sound of a car braking to raise a few laughs, but Pepper quickly told him to shut up. As Susan arrived to take the class, Declan Napier – one of Bridget’s closest friends – arrived late, whispering to Tom that Susan shouldn’t be teaching, she should be in jail.
