The owner of the V-Bar in the heart of Melbourne, Hugh Lauden was forced to put the business on the market, not long after opening it, when his wife ran off with her personal trainer. Paul Robinson and his daughter, Elle, were impressed with the bar as they were looking for a new business of their own and, sensing that Hugh needed a quick sale, they told him that they'd be willing to pay 20% below the asking price and that their offer was on the table until the end of the day. Later that day, their broker informed them that Hugh had accepted the deal and they met with him again a few days later. Elle explained that they'd like to take over immediately, rather than wait the 28 days until the deal was closed, offering to pay him a weekly rent for the next few weeks, terms that Hugh accepted.
