Sergeant Rick Lawson 2009
Occupation: Police Sergeant

Whilst researching a story for Valentine's Day, journalist Elle Robinson and photographer Lucas Fitzgerald stumbled upon what they believed to be proof that their friend and neighbour Zeke Kinski, missing after a rafting accident, was still alive. Having learnt that a boy matching Zeke's description had been working on the farm belonging to Phil Andrews, they broke in, looking for further proof, before speaking to Zeke's stepmother Susan about their findings. Susan quickly contacted the police, and Sergeant Rick Lawson accompanied her to the lock-up where Phil had been staying. He insisted that he knew nothing about Zeke and, with nothing more than circumstantial evidence to go on, Sergeant Lawson was forced to leave him be, despite Susan's insistence that her son had to be there. Later, once alone, Phil made a mysterious call to his apparently dead son Trent, telling him it was safe to come home. The following week, when Susan sent back a t-shirt that Elle had stolen from Phil's house, Zeke was confused by his feelings as he saw her name on the letter, and later called her, explaining that he was Phil's son, Trent, and didn't know of anyone called Zeke. Susan was stunned to hear Zeke's voice, and she and husband Karl returned to the lock-up, where they found their missing son. But Zeke didn't want to go with them, insisting he stay with his 'dad', so they called the police. Sergeant Lawson returned, apologising for not believing Susan's earlier story and Phil was taken away for questioning, while Zeke, still refusing to speak to Karl and Susan, was taken for psychiatric assessment.
