Characters > Pet Profiles > Lou Trained by Jason Hura

Lou 1999

When Madge Bishop found a goose tangled up in some plastic by Lassiter’s Lake, she helped to free him, and told him that, due to his big mouth, she was going to name him Lou, after her friend Lou Carpenter. The grateful goose proceeded to follow Madge back to The Coffee Shop, where he hissed at anyone who tried to get in the door, and Madge and her husband Harold realised that something would have to be done. After persuading neighbour Drew Kirk to catch Lou in a box, the three of them took him down to Harold’s allotment to free him, but a dismayed Harold quickly realised that the animal was a vegetarian and would eat all of his plants, and with Lou still trying to follow Madge everywhere, Drew agreed to build it a pen. Unfortunately, the pen wasn't enough to keep Lou away from Madge and, a few days later, he returned, hissing at Paul McClain and Tad Reeves as they left The Coffee Shop. Madge bribed the boys with $10 each and a free drink to catch the bird, which eventually they managed by covering him with a tablecloth. Though Madge wanted to keep Lou as a pet, Harold wasn't comfortable with the idea and, behind her back, took him to a children's farm.
