Kirsty Martin 2004
Children: Rose

Having invested all of his money in a doomed production of Hello Dolly, then seen his wife, Trixie, walk out on him, Lou Carpenter found himself in dire financial straits. After selling dodgy speakers to many of his friends and neighbours, he then bought an old car, which was almost ready to be scrapped, for $100 and placed it on the forecourt of his garage. When single mother Kirsty Martin came by with her daughter, Rose, explaining that her mother had once bought a car from Lou and had recommended him. As Lou told her about the great deal she’d be getting with the new car he’d just acquired, Kirsty explained that she needed assurance that she wouldn’t have any major bills to contend with if she bought it. Lou quickly explained that she wouldn’t, and told her that he’d be practically giving it away, but she could have the car for $5000.
