One of Dr Karl Kennedy’s regular patients, Ivy McKinnon was at the surgery for a regular appointment about her arthritis, when she mentioned that she’d had a visitor at home, asking questions about the surgery. She went on to explain that he was from the health insurance commission and had asked her about the doctors and how the surgery was run. Karl quickly realised that he was being audited and explained to Ivy that she probably wouldn’t receive any more similar visits. After a few phone calls later that day, Karl eventually found out that whilst his nephew, Darcy Tyler, had been acting as locum, he’d wrongly billed a patient, who had complained to Medicare and put Karl’s practice in jeopardy.
