After finding out that Alan Napier, who had worked for his family for years, was actually his grandfather and Clifford and Pamela, the people who’d brought him up, weren’t his real parents, Oliver Barnes set about finding out the truth. A DNA test proved that Oliver and Alan were indeed related, but with Alan in a coma, Oliver’s girlfriend Elle was forced to use a private detective to track down Alan’s son and daughter, Marcus and Rebecca. Though Rebecca was listed as ‘address unknown’, Marcus was still living in Melbourne, so Oliver went to see him, looking for answers. A bitter Marcus slammed the door upon hearing the Barnes name, but later listened as Oliver explained what had happened. Marcus insisted that he wasn’t Oliver’s father, but suspected that Rebecca could be his real mum. He explained that, when he was young, he spent a few months overseas and, upon his return, Rebecca had gone and Pamela and Clifford suddenly had a baby.

Only weeks later, Oliver had been reunited with Rebecca, when Alan died suddenly, having been suffering from heart problems for months. Though Marcus was contacted, he was happy to let Oliver take care of everything, wanting nothing to do with his estranged father or sister.
