After attending the funeral of her husband, Mrs Forbes received a visit from Joyce Oakleigh, the closest neighbour whose property was a kilometre away. Joyce had come to pay her respects, but Mrs Forbes was growing increasingly confused with recent events, often believing that her husband was still alive, and Joyce grew concerned, asking about the two boys - runaways Scott Robinson and Danny Ramsay - in the kitchen. The boys had been helping on the farm, and became agitated as Joyce asked questions and suggested getting professional help for Mrs Forbes, so she realised that she wasn't welcome and left.
