As he attempted to distract himself from bigger problems in his life, Karl Kennedy decided to hold a promotion at his tram cafe, The 82. After realising that the business was about to serve its 82,000th customer, he came up with the idea of offering that person a free pie every week for 82 weeks. As the event gained publicity, there was soon a crowd of people gathered, but as Karl's personal issues got in the way, he ended up leaving early and wasn't there when tram employee Louisa served the 82,000th customer. Unfortunately, as Gino Esposito and Vera Punt had both ordered at the same time, and they started to bicker over who should get the prize, Karl's wife Susan was forced to step in and offered them each a free pie every week for 82 weeks.
