Parker Reed 2024
Occupation: Student
When
Wendy Rodwell enrolled at university, to study to become an art teacher, she initially struggled to make any friends. After finding it difficult to
juggle her studies with her work managing The Waterhole at first, by the time she worked things out, she found that all of the friendship groups had been
formed and nobody wanted to know her. She eventually decided to approach a group who were sitting and chatting, complimenting one of them, Parker Reed, on
their outfit. Parker was delighted with the compliment, and admitted that as Wendy had been so quiet, they'd assumed that she wanted to be left alone. Wendy
soon won over her new friends by handing out some of her handmade jewellery, and was then persuaded to join them all for drinks that evening.
As Wendy spent time with Parker and the other students, including
Quinn Lao, she realised that they thought that she wasn't that much older than them and
she didn't correct them, failing to mention that she had a husband and 20-year-old daughter at home. As Wendy continued to live a double life, dressing and
acting younger at uni, she was caught out by friend and neighbour
Cara Varga-Murphy. Cara had started a short IT course at the uni, but was embarrassed about
having to do it and worried that she'd fail, so she and Wendy agreed to keep each other's secrets. When Parker then visited the Waterhole, the bar that Wendy
managed, to tell her about a traffic light party the following week, Cara was worried as she overheard the conversation. With Parker under the impression that
Wendy was looking forward to 'cruising' at the party, they left and Cara warned Wendy that she needed to start thinking about
husband Andrew and how he'd feel
if he found out what she was doing.
When the venue for the traffic light party fell through, Parker contacted Wendy and asked if they could hold it at her house. After managing to get both
Andrew and Sadie out of the house for the duration, she agreed to host the party, with both Parker and Quinn turning up early to help, surprised to find
Wendy wearing orange, having believed that she was single. As Wendy eventually started to loosen up and enjoy herself, she was in for a shock when Andrew
and Sadie's plans fell through and they returned to find the complete chaos at the house.
When Parker noticed that Wendy had been avoiding her uni friends since the party incident, they approached her and made it clear that they were all still
friends and nothing had changed. When Andrew later turned up to have lunch with Wendy, Parker approached them both and invited them out for drinks with the
others, an invitation that Andrew was very happy to accept. As they all went to the Waterhole, Andrew made a good impression on Wendy's uni mates, to the
point that Wendy asked him not to join them again, as she wanted to keep her home and uni life separate.
The following week, Parker and Quinn were delighted to attend as Wendy was awarded with the Gatsford Mentorship. Having been led to believe that her receiving
the award was just a PR stunt by the uni to show that they were diverse, Wendy had been debating whether to accept it or make a very public statement by turning
it down. Ultimately, she decided to accept, realising that she had to put herself first and that the mentorship could be a huge boost to her career as a teacher,
and she was congratulated by her family and friends.
