When Leo Hancock was entered into a chess championship, he found himself suffering badly with nerves, but was pushed along by his parents, particularly his father, Evan. During the semi-final heats, held at Erinsborough High, and adjudicated by Malcolm Pike, Leo was paired up to play against Peter Roundtree, who he easily managed to beat, but ultimately he lost out in the finals to child prodigy, Maylynn Cheng.
