After Wendy Rodwell applied for, and won, the Gatsford Mentorship at Eden Hills Uni, she was delighted to have the opportunity, but another student, Heidi Runnals, was less impressed. When Heidi overheard Wendy making plans to celebrate with her family that night, she confirmed that she hadn't bothered to apply, suggesting that it was just a diversity box-ticking exercise by the uni to make them look good. Wendy's friend Cara quickly pointed out that what Heidi was suggesting was racist, and Heidi walked away, but Wendy was left deflated, wondering if she'd won based on her race rather than her academic talents.
