After being left partially paralysed in a car accident, Bridget Parker struggled to get back to her old self, and her family grew concerned. Desperate to get her to do something other than lie on the couch, her dad, Steve, a vet, brought home a pregnant guinea pig named Sally. She was about to go into labour, and the family deliberately left Bridget home alone with the animal, forcing her to help when Sally went into labour. The experience proved to be a turning point for Bridget, and she was given the honour of naming one of the pups, who she called Rex.
