When Sheila Canning - manager of The Waterhole - went to war with the new Off Air Bar, one of her secret weapons was new barman Andres, who, whilst being very attractive, could unfortunately speak little English. When Lauren Turner, owner of Harold's Store, admitted that her business had been suffering too, her dad Lou Carpenter decided to try and help by poaching Andres. This then sparked a new war between The Waterhole and Harold's Store, but when Lou called in on Sheila the next day to explain that he'd had to sack Andres - who's struggled to work the coffee machine and had almost burnt the building down - he was shocked to see that she was already fighting back with an exotic new menu.

The following year, Doug Willis was working on turning number 32's shed into a bar, ably assisted by his granddaughters, Paige and Imogen. When Andres arrived to deliver some timber, Paige quickly recognised him from their brief time working together at Harold's, and she decided to try and set him up with Imogen, who was going through a difficult time in her relationship with Daniel Robinson. With Daniel suggesting that they should also see other people, Paige thought that Andres would be the perfect candidate, but Imogen wasn't ready to see anyone else, and resisted all of Paige's attempts to push them together.
