Following the disappearance of their stepson Zeke in a rafting accident, Karl and Susan Kennedy received a call to say that an unidentified young man had been found, badly injured, and was being treated at Bairnsdale Regional Hospital. They rushed to see if the boy was Zeke, and were prepared for what they were about to see by Dr John Sibbett, who explained that, although there was a little brain activity, there was very little chance of a full recovery. As they went inside, both Susan and Karl were relieved, though slightly shocked, to realise that it wasn't Zeke in the hospital bed.
